My Transformative Journey

In 2020, I embarked on a transformative journey into the world of interior design However, the love for shopping locally and second hand started even earlier. Join me as I share my love for decorating, my journey into the interior design world, my passion for second hand treasures, and the joy of turning my space into a peaceful environment.

There's something about shopping at my local thrift store that fuels the fire in my soul. An item someone no longer wanted, is my treasure. Sometimes you get lucky and find something you could have bought at a high end store, or something that is so timeless it's uniqueness stands out, you just HAVE to buy it. The list truly goes on, safe to say i'm a fan.

Second hand items to me possess a unique charm, and you never know the story behind them. I shopped at a unique thrift store on a corner in Helena. The outside looked like clutter, the inside as well. I came across a vintage 1973' cowboy sculpture, had to weigh at least 5 pounds. The couple that owned the store, found it in a estate sale. The piece was called, "Chairman on the Range." He owned a museum in Colorado and started his gallery at a young age. He passed in 2021. I absolutely just crave the stories pieces like that unfold, I always want to know every detail.

As I grew more into figuring out what my decor style was, I decided I wanted to take a shot at interior design classes. In 2020, I signed up for a couple classes at NYAID. A interior design school based out in NYC, but was able to completely do them online. As I started taking them, I learned so much. From decorating in confidence, to renovations and demolitions, to construction side of design, different styles and techniques, the list goes on.

If you're dying to know how well it benefited me; well, I have some news for you. The projects were fun, I spent a lot of time reading books and learning everything there was to know about it. Unfortunately, after a year I got bored of it. Despite exploring into interior design school in 2020 with eagerness, I found myself growing increasingly discouraged with the structured environment. I don't know if it was the online aspect, as I like to be hands on, or the fact I created my own version of design and I was following a strict type of design. The curriculum emphasized high-end trends and styles, steering my focus away from what truly resonated with me. The charm of traditional and simple designs really speaks to me. The pressure to conform to popular aesthetics left me yearning for the freedom to explore and define my own unique style. Realizing that my passion lay in a more organic, learn as you go approach, I made the decision to break away from the classes. My journey towards creating a home that reflected my personal taste and values became more fulfilling and authentic to me as a person.

With that being said, I decided I wanted to share my love for buying second hand, and designing my own space, to people who want to do the same. A little "inspo" goes a long way. I hope whatever you dream of, that you chase that and run with it. I found it so hard to be unique in a world like today, embrace your individuality, explore your passions, focus on your strengths, learn continually, and don't be afraid to take a new path!

Thanks for reading my first blog post! Many more to come.
